Today's character is Geun-Seok Na. (나근석)
He is a main character in my story project #21: Offstage.
The story is basically a romantic drama with a love triangle...
I usually write fantasy thrillers or thrillers, but I also write romantic dramas. I like reading into the characters' psychological states that are not overtly expressed in the screen (I mean, in lines. I like it when what a character says contradicts with what he thinks and feels inside or what he thinks that he thinks and feels). :P
And romance in my opinion is full of such possibilities!
Anyway,
Name: Geun-Seok Na
Name: Geun-Seok Na
Origin: Korean
Age: Mid-20s
Occupation: Singer(-song writer). He is the leader of a band...
I haven't tried to draw anything like this for years. Hence it was more difficult to make this image.
When I draw a character, I usually draw a general look of him/her.
But Geun-Seok here is in a specific moment: he is singing and he is in agony.
Well, naturally because of loooove. But at this point he is also partially blind.. This is the moment that he decides to let go his love for a girl he has secretly loved for many years. This is the moment of his breakdown.

Yes, I suck at drawing bodies. And it's the first time I'm trying this contorted, agonized (at least that is what I intended) form in action (more or less).
(I wish I had a model to draw.. but I didn't have internet to search for a similar pose when I was making this.. Next time maybe I will..)
This drawing makes huge differences with my previous drawings of Geun-Seok:
This, for example, was made very quickly in Spring 2011. He looks..... well, cute and smart. That's what he usually looks like to other people, smart, witty, friendly, and optimistic.
(Geun-Seok in high school)
The below drawing is made in December 2010. (look at that thing.... believe it or not it's a guitar that he plays -_-)
In contrast, today's drawing shows his other side, a vulnerable (?), losing control, breaking down human.
Or at least I had that idea in mind. :)
Development stages: I not only changed the face and body but also the character and how he was portrayed.
I found that he looked rather sissy in the above stages. I wanted him to look a little more desperate and hurt... so I changed his face and body a bit:
This is the final version. Awkward positions, still kinda sissy (...) etc., etc. But at least I TRIED hard to get a sense of pathos in his face!! (By the way it took 3.5 hours to finish this... I've tried many new things today.. Took some effort but 100% worth it. :D )
You are a wonderful artist! I received your email, tried to email you back but got the "no-reply" message. If you would like to be added to our Project 365 let me know. Diane
ReplyDeleteI'd be glad to be added to your project! :) I don't know why you got the no-reply message though.. I am a new blogger :)
